Freelance Heritage Researcher – SAVE Britain’s Heritage
- Remote | Short-term contract (2 weeks/10 days) | Immediate start
- £150 per day (£1500 total fee)
About SAVE Britain’s Heritage
SAVE Britain’s Heritage has been at the forefront of campaigning to protect historic buildings across the UK since 1975. As we approach our 50th anniversary in 2025, we are documenting our impact—gathering key statistics, case studies, and insights from our archives to showcase the difference SAVE has made.
To support this, we are seeking a freelance researcher for an intensive two-week contract to extract and organise key information from our publications, reports, and campaign materials.
Role Overview
We need a detail-focused researcher who can work quickly and accurately to:
- Review SAVE’s past publications and reports (from 1975 to the present).
- Identify and record key cases where SAVE has taken action to protect historic buildings.
- Extract data on the number of buildings saved, types of interventions used (e.g., petitions, legal challenges, press campaigns), and their long-term outcomes.
- Use online sources (e.g., Google Maps, newspaper archives, Wikipedia) to verify the current status of buildings SAVE campaigned for.
- Log findings systematically into a structured spreadsheet.
This is a time-sensitive project, and we are looking for someone who can start immediately or in the next few weeks.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in heritage research, archival work, or policy analysis.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to extract key information efficiently.
- Strong organisational skills, ideally with experience working with spreadsheets/databases.
- An understanding of historic buildings and conservation issues in the UK.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
Contract Details
- Start date: ASAP.
- Duration: 2 weeks (full-time equivalent, flexible hours possible).
- Location: Remote.
- Fee: £150 per day (£1500 total fee)
- Reporting to: Stephen Sheriff (Creative Producer) // Eve Blain (Intern)
